Jama Masjid in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India - A UNESCO World Heritage Site

Jama Masjid was built using yellow sandstone during the reign of Ahmed Shah. An inscription on the mihrab commemorates the inauguration of the mosque on 4 January 1424 by Sultan Ahmed Shah I.

The mosque is located just outside Bhadra Fort area and legend suggests that the the mosque was originally intended only for private use of the sultans.

The Jama Masjid of Ahmedabad may have been the largest mosque in the Indian subcontinent built in the 15th century.
