Namdapha a tropical wet evergreen rainforest is teeming with wildlife

Four pantherine species are found at Namdapha >> common leopard, snow leopard, clouded leopard and tiger (it is also a Tiger reserve); Namdapha is also the habitat of the endangered mammal, species of Slow Lorries and Hoolock Gibbon the only ‘ape’ species of India. Other animals found in Namdapha include Namdapha Flying Squirrel, Elephant, Black Bear, Deers, Civets, Gaur.

The notable avifauna include 5 species of hornbills, few species of rare wren-babblers, laughing thrushes, parrotbills, fulvettas, shrike babblers,  scimitar babblers, snowythroated babblers + rare and globally endangered species like the rufous-necked hornbill, green cochoa, purple cochoa, beautiful nuthatch, Ward's trogon, ruddy kingfisher, blue-eared kingfisher, white-tailed fish eagle, Eurasian hobby, pied falconet, white-winged wood duck, Himalayan wood-owl, rufous-throated hill-partridge, and whitecheeked hill partridge… 

The Namdapha National Park is very rich in Lepidoptera species - and is home to many rare species of butterflies - like the koh-i-noor, naga treebrown, red caliph, cruiser, wizard, fluffy tit, East Himalayan purple emperor... Reptiles include Cobra, viper, Krait, Python…

Rusty-fronted Barwing at Namdapha National Park, Arunachal Pradesh, India

Rusty-fronted Barwing at Namdapha National Park has a distinctive call - that of a three-note whistle in which the third note is considerably lower than the first two - they also have a range of different calls.

Rusty-fronted Barwing has a pure white belly and an orangish wash over the front of the face and is identified with dark chestnut forehead, face and chin and mostly pinkish bill and wings are barred like other barwings but with almost plain rufous-chestnut greater coverts...

Rusty-fronted Barwing forages in pairs and small flocks, sometimes with other species and feeds on insects, berries and seeds.

Rusty-fronted Barwing's breeding season from April to July or August.

White hooded Babbler at Namdapha National Park, Arunachal Pradesh, India

White hooded Babbler at Namdapha National Park has a large head, long tail, and hooked bill - the adult has the full white head whereas the younger ones have an orange crown and a white throat.

White hooded Babbler forages in dense stands of bamboo or shribs and long grass - lowland forests. They are loud and travel in large flocks and are often seen with scimitar-babblers.

White-bellied Heron at Namdapha National Park, Arunachal Pradesh, India

White-bellied Herons are found in the eastern Himalayan regions plus at Namdapha National Park - Imperious or arrogant by nature with a long neck, these Herons are stone-gray in clour with a pale throat patch, a black bill and a distinct white belly. They show a strong black-and-white contrast on the underwing - visible when in flight. 

White-bellied Heron is a solitary species and you can spot them alone or may be in pairs very rarely in groups of 4-5. It feeds by standing in fast flowing rivers in the summer and slow moving watercourses or streams and grassy marshes in winters.

Feeding primarily at dusk - they eat fish - (also known to eat large crayfish) - additional research is required to understand their diet as not much in known currently. 

White-bellied Heron are rare and unfortunately their numbers are declining due to habitat degradation thus are marked as an endangered species.

Yellow-bellied Fantail at Namdapha National Park, Arunachal Pradesh, India

Yellow-bellied Fantail is found in the Himalayas and at Namdapha National Park. It is an active little bird with an apparent bright yellow belly, a black eye-stripe and a fan-like tail that is black in color and tipped white.

Commonly found in the foothills and broadleaf forests, where it forages energetically and acrobatically for insects, often with other small passerines in mixed-species foraging flocks. 

Yellow-bellied Fantail is fairly similar in shape to fantails but much smaller, and actually more closely related to tits. Their call is a simple series of high 'tsip' notes.

Rufous-necked Hornbill at Namdapha National Park, Arunachal Pradesh, India

The Rufous-necked Hornbills in Namdapha National Park can create a racket - as they give out loud, echoing croaks, roars, and grunts.

The Hornbill's plumage is a glossy either black or dark-green - underparts, neck and head are rich rufous in the male, but black in the female. Both male and female have a black and white tail (end portion) plus a sky blue patch of facial skin and red throat pouch. Juvenile hornbills resemble adults - note the young ones lack the ridges at the base of the upper beak.

The rufous-necked hornbill eats berries, drupes, and capsular fruits but they also eats some animal matter. The rufous-necked hornbill is monogamous and mostly territorial - usually seen in pairs and it’s breeding period in Arunachal Pradesh is from mid to late April to August - they prefer broadleaved forests with tall trees with broad girths. Hornbills move between forests depending on fruiting trees that change with local conditions and seasons.
